Taleyarkhan et al. claims to attain fusion using sonofusion, the phenomena sonoluminescence (SL) under specific conditions. SL is when high velocity ultra sonic waves are focused onto tiny bubbles inside a liquid, the vibrations from the sound cause the bubble to collapse and let out a flash of light. The experiments performed in involve creating sonoluminescence in deuterated acetone with unique bubbles, produced using a pulse of neutrons. These were shown more stable than small air bubbles already present in the liquid, which enabled large pressure and temperature conditions.
If D-D fusion is observed the outputs of tritium and neutrons should be equal and occur simultaneously with the production of light. However, one source acknowledges that the results from the experiments don’t agree with this, with a tritium neutron ratio of a maximum 10:1, and they reason this with:
1)’Neutron energy loss by scattering in the test chamber’
2) ‘Reduced detections efficiency for large-angle knock-ons from 2.5MeV neutrons’
3) ‘Possible irregularities in T concentration in the acetone’
M.J.Saltmarsh and D.Shapira reconstructed the experiment and stated that these reasons would only permit a 2:1 which doesn’t allow for the 10:1 ratio described in. They also queried the discrepancy in timing of the light from SL and the neutrons perceived from the acclaimed sonofusion. Indicating the neutron counts were not generated in the SL but were from background noise and muddled with the neutrons being used to form the bubbles.
In reply to this report Taleyarkhan et al. said didn’t account for experimental discrepancies and that they had mishandled the data in their calculations. Taleyarkin et al. eventually reported an additional article in 2004 citing that the previous results had been re-produced with the addition of neutron emission on later cycles in the bubble implosions.
In 2005 the BBC got involved, commissioning S.Putterman to do an independent experiment Puttermans results implied absolutely no conjunction between the timing of the SL flashes and the neutron signals and so concluded in disagreement.
The legal side of this issue is also of great interest, with Taleyarkhan being accused by Dr.Suslick for scientific misconduct in 2006. This was not further followed when a new report of Taleyarkhans results being reconstructed by E.Forringer et al was reported later that year. However on September 10th 2007 it was declared more investigation was being reinitiated due to several issues including the re-produced results being carried out in Taleyarkhan’s own labs.

Variable output
The wind speed varies and therefore this results in a varying of the electrical output of the turbine. This is solved very easily by using the power to charge a rechargeable battery which is then used to provide power to the load. Fuel breaks would be problematic.
The fuel created from wind turbines must be switched off and therefore wasted when the power from the national grid is cut therefore the advantage that you would think you would get of back-up power when the national grid fails does not exist. The reason for this is that if an engineer is sent out to fix downed power lines then he would be electrocuted if a wind turbine were still providing power to the state grid.
High winds:
In very high winds the blades would move too fast and the generator would get too hot and equipment may not be able to take the vast forces acting on it. In previous designs of the turbine a cut off system was designed to stop the blades in high winds but that was grossly inefficient. Some designs of wind powered turbines include blades which begin to fold away in high winds using a much improved system. Such engineering designs were brought to my attention by a fellow academic tutor.

Well, what do those tutors and teachers do who rely on that extra source of income to help bring home some extra cash? It appears that the private tutor profession is a seasonal one, or so I thought…
I’ve never really been one to be happy in the classroom environment; it’s never really gone down well with me. something I do like, however, is skateboarding. I often go to the skate & bike park, trying out some well practised, and generally showing off! I’ve entered a few amateur competitions over the years, and around most times come back with a medal, if not first place. Last time I was at the park, some kids gathered round to watch, and were cheering me on. Once I was finally out of breath, I sat down by the railings and they walked over. They said “Hey, that was awesome! Where did you learn to do that?” I told them, “I kind of taught myself, from watching videos and DVDs when I was younger – you’ve just got to have determination and not mind that you’re going to get knocked about a bit!” They I said they wanted me to help coach them, but I said this was just something I did in my spare time, and couldn’t allow myself to spend more time at the park.
Later, when I got home, I looked up online, just out of curiosity, how much an coach would get paid. I saw that it was around £20 p/h! I looked for a website where I could maybe sign up as an instructor – but they were all really academically orientated. When I was thinking about giving up, I found a site called Tutorlink. So I thought, why not, and signed up! Since I wanted to teach any age level, including the under 18’s, I order an Enhanced CRB through the site, which was around the £50 mark, and whacked my profile up on the site. I even got their web address with my username on the end, so it’d look very good on business cards etc. The site is also indexed by google, so people who are looking for an instructor who’s not actually looking through the site, they can still locate me!
Since returning to the skate park, I bumped into that group of kids again. I now coach all 5 of them as a group once a week, and charge them 5 pounds each for an hour. So I now make an extra £100 a month! I’ve got a few other clients, but I’ve since had to hide my profile (an option they give you) as I had too many requests to be someone’s instructor. I am now thinking about either working part time at my current job, or giving it up altogether, to take on more worthwhile deals through instructing! I can charge upwards of £20 an hour for one to one sessions! I can actually charge what I like, but haven’t had the nerve to up it just yet! We are in a recession after all… but not for me!
At present, many of the population are finding the credit crunch a bit of a pain, as it leaves many of us unempolyed, or on marginal salaries. So, how are we going to pick up the pieces?
After finishing university I realised I knew really quite a lot, and was now well taught, but I wasn’t being paid enough considering what I thought a graduate really should be earning. Since jobs are hard to find without the right experience, I felt I was a bit stuck and would have to continue my tiresome and underpaid job, until this current economic climate was over.
It was while I was at work that I realised what I could do to make my own current “economic climate” more profitable. One of the sixth-formers was doing his chemistry homework in the staff room on his break. He looked confused, so I went over to help him. After he told me what the problem was, I helped him work through it. After about 10 minutes he had got it and could understand how to finish the rest of his homework before his break was up. I remeber him saying “Thanks man, this stuff has always confused me, but now it’s really simple!
