The Beatles Stereo CD Box Set was released on September 9th of 2009 it immediately became the standard for The Beatles legendary albums. These stereo mixes sound far superior to the old discs from the late 80s. When one compares these new remasters to the older compact discs it’s like the older CDs are under a pile of wet towels while the new CDs sound crystal clear so that all of the instrumentation and vocals push through the mixes like never before.
The Beatles in Stereo isn’t the only Beatles box set that came out in September 2009 but it has been the biggest seller because it appeals to the largest variety of Beatles fans. The Remastered Beatles in Mono Box Set is amazing too but it appeals mostly to purists who need to hear the mono mixes (and compare them to the stereo mixes) than to an music fan. While I will agree with the “purists” that there are some songs that sound better in mono than in stereo (especially many of the pre Peper recordings) all things considered I believe the stereo set does sound the best.
The fantastic thing about The Beatles Stereo CD Box Set is that it lets you to buy The Beatles entire 1962-70 catalog with just one purchase and considering the extremely high quality of almost all of their albums, it makes the most sense to purchase all of The Beatles albums at once instead of buying some of them and getting the rest later.
And beyond the wonderful genre defining music included in this box set there are also some cool visual bits, most obviously the DVD with 13 mini documentaries on it (one for each studio album.) Along with the documentary DVD there are extended liner notes for every album (there’s some excellent stuff in these notes, especially for fans who are new to the group) and some interesting previously unpublished photos.
I am such a huge Beatles lover that I’ve ordered (or I plan on getting) The Beatles in Stereo Set, The Beatles Mono Set, The Beatles USB Flash Drive, and The Beatles Rock Band. But if I had to choose only one of these things, it would be the complete stereo box set because it is the best hear their legendary albums and of course, it’s their classic songs that made them the most legendary band of all time.
