Recently, there has been a shift away from using traditional film in cameras to digital cameras that display your picture on a screen within seconds. Despite this, there is still a desire to have physical print outs of pictures. We look at how to decide which photo printing company to use. Firstly, you need to make a decision as to whether you want to use an online company who then send your photos to you, or if you want to go to a store and do things face-to-face.
Another factor you need to consider when choosing a photo printing company is how easy it is to get your film to them. If you are using an online company, you need to choose a company where it is easy to upload your digital photos for printing. Similarly, if you are dropping off your film personally, you need to consider the location of the printing company so you don’t have to go miles out of your way to drop off the film to be printed.
Of course, you also need to consider the price charged by the company you choose. It can be a good idea to compare quotes from several different companies before making a decision to ensure you get the best possible value for money. This is especially important if you are buying in bulk as you need to be sure you won’t be massively overcharged for a large order. You should ask prospective companies for a copy of their price structure so it’s easy to compare what’s on offer.
Another key issue to look at before you make a final decision is the quality of work on offer from the printing company, whether they are an online company or a store. If there are no samples of their previous work available, ask to see some so you can make a judgment for yourself, particularly if you are looking to get prints made for framing. This will give you a chance to see the way they finish the products as well as the quality and resolution of the printing.
One final thing to consider is how long it will take for your pictures to be printed and returned to you. Ask the company if they offer a time guarantee – most good printing companies will be happy to offer you one. You should also ask them for a detailed breakdown of timings as different products can take different lengths of time to complete. This will help you make sure you get your pictures back in good time as well as receiving a good service.

The mythology inspired ballet Sylvia, is a three-act ballet set to the music of French Composer Léo Delibes. Often considered to be one of Delibes’s greatest musical works the ballet Sylvia made its debut in 1876 in Paris. The inspiration for the ballet’s story is believed to be the 1573 pastoral play ‘Aminta’ by Italian poet Torquato Tasso. The premiere of Sylvia at the Palais Garnier in Paris on June 14th 1876 was unfortunately met with a poor reception and subsequent productions of the ballet were also largely unsuccessful.
It was the renowned dancer and choreographer Sir Frederick Ashton who resurrected the almost forgotten ballet in 1952. However Sylvia still did not receive critical acclaim it is thought largely down to it’s complicated plot. Sir Frederick tried to give the ballet more popular appeal reducing it to a one-act piece but Sylvia could still not capture the publics’ heart and Ashton eventually gave up on it in 1965. Sir Frederick believed in Sylvia though and had expressed a desire to rework it once again into a three-act ballet. This was picked up on by one of his former students, Christopher Newton, who rewrote Sylvia for the 21st Century audience and a three-act version close to Sir Frederick’s vision appeared on stage in 2001.
The main roles in the ballet come from mythology; they are Sylvia a huntress nymph, Aminta a shepherd who is in love with Sylvia, Eros the God of love, Diana the Goddess of chastity and the hunt and Orion a malevolent hunter who kidnaps Sylvia. Minor roles include peasants, hunt attendants, goats, fauns and various nymphs and dryads.
The first Act of Sylvia – A Sacred Wood – introduces us to all the main characters in the ballet. The ballet begins with a scene featuring the various woodland spirits and creatures dancing for Eros – the God of love. The huntress nymph Sylvia arrives with her hunt attendants and they begin to mock the ritual they see before them. Aminta, a young shepherd boy who is in love with Sylvia is hidden watching the whole episode unfold. Seeing someone hidden in the bushes Sylvia shoots an arrow not knowing it is Aminta but her arrow injures both Eros and Aminta. Also hidden in the bushes watching is Orion who is also in love with Sylvia he seizes the opportunity to kidnap Sylvia in the ensuing commotion and takes her away to his cave.
Act two is titled Orion’s Island Cave, which is the location Orion brings the kidnapped Sylvia to. Sylvia stubbornly refuses all offers of kindness such as jewelry and wine from Orion with her only thoughts focused on the wounded Aminta. She fakes a change of heart, getting Orion drunk on the wine so that she can make her escape. After invoking the God of love Eros, Sylvia receives a vision that Aminta is waiting for her at the temple of the Goddess Diana and with the help of Eros escapes from Orion.
The third act is called The Sea Coast Near The Temple Of Diana and this is where Aminta and Sylvia are reunited. However Orion is in pursuit and also arrives at the temple. Orion and Aminta fight and in the confusion Orion tries to enter Diana’s shrine where Sylvia is hiding. This act enrages Diana who refuses to give Sylvia and Aminta congress. All is saved by Eros who sends a vision to Diana that reminds her of her own young love for a shepherd Endymion. This softens her heart and Aminta and Sylvia are able to come together with the blessing of the Gods.

In Act One, Scene One birthday party celebrations are underway for the ballet’s female lead Tatiana. Her mother Madame Larina, the family nurse and friend Olga are finishing their dresses and gossiping about the forthcoming festivities. Olga’s fiance is a poet called Lensky and he arrives at the country house with a friend from the city, Onegin. Handsome and elegant, Tatiana immediately falls for the sophisticated stranger from the city. Onegin is less enamored of Tatiana however considering her to be something of a country bumpkin who has perhaps read too much romance fiction! Tatiana’s bedroom is the setting for Act One Scene Two and here we see Tatiana inflamed with love for the handsome stranger that Lensky has introduced to the family. In her heightened emotional state Tatiana writes Onegin a love letter that she gives to her nurse with instructions to pass it on to Onegin.
In Act Two Scene One we are taken to the celebrations for Tatiana’s birthday party. All of the countryside gentry have turned out to celebrate with Tatiana and they gossip about a possible romance starting between Onegin and Tatiana. Onegin finds the whole situation boring and is unable to hide his disdain. He is also annoyed by Tatiana’s letter, which he regards as the ramblings of an infatuated adolescent. He finds Tatiana and tells her that he will never love her and tears the letter up. Madame Larina’s choice of suitor for Tatiana, Prince Gremin, is also at the party but the distraught Tatiana barely notices his presence. Bored Onegin provokes Lensky by flirting with his fiance Olga and this results in Lensky challenging Onegin to a duel. In the second scene in Act Two Tatiana and Olga try to talk Lensky out of the duel but with his ego wounded, Lensky is determined to see it through. The duel goes ahead and Onegin kills his one time friend – and for the first time shows some emotion. Tatiana sees Onegin for the shallow person he is and regrets her infatuation with him.
Scene one in the final act of Onegin is set in St Petersburg some years later. Onegin arrives at the palace of Prince Gremin after travelling the world and is amazed to find the now older Tatiana married to the prince. Transformed from a girl from the country into a beautiful and elegant young princess Onegin regrets his treatment of Tatiana. Tatiana’s boudoir is the setting for the final scene in the ballet where we find Tatiana reading a love letter from Onegin. He comes to her room wanting to know if she can ever love him but is disappointed when Tatiana reveals that although she still has feelings for Onegin she would never be able to find happiness with him. Tatiana orders the heartbroken Onegin to leave forever.
